1976- Kingo Yamanashi first entered into the seafood industry on July 4th when he bought 8 pieces of Bluefin Tuna in Boston for a total of $1,200
Back then, Tuna was not a fish people ate in the US and was caught mainly for sports fishing purposes
Kingo traveled to Boston every morning and back to New York to sell the tuna to Japanese chefs
1977 - Yama Company was established in Colts Neck, NJ
1980 - Yama Seafood, Inc. was established in Meatpacking District, New York City
1991 - Yama Seafood, Inc. relocated to the current warehouse in Jersey City, NJ
Due to the strong culture Yama Seafood has cultivated, many of our employees have been with the company for over 30 years.
